With a loaded roster and a good shot at back-to-back World Series titles, the New York Yankees just want to escape spring training injury-free. On Monday night, the Yankees got a scare when superstar first baseman Mark Teixeira was hit by a pitch.
Teixeira left the game after getting hit on his right elbow on a pitch thrown by Jeremy Guthrie of the Baltimore Orioles. Luckily for the Yankees and their fans, Teixeira’s injury has been diagnosed as a bruise and he should be back in action later in the week.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi was rightfully nervous after the ball hit Teixeira.
Said Girardi: “I was kind of like, ‘Oh no!’ when he got hit. He won’t play tomorrow and probably won’t play Wednesday. We’ll shoot for Thursday.”
After signing with the Yankees last year for 0 million, Teixeira delivered. In hit .292 with 39 homers and 122 RBIs while helping New York to the best record in baseball during the regular season and a World Series championship in the postseason.
