Latest Baseball News:Fernando Rodney Signs with Angels
Article Summary:
While Brian Fuentes remains the closer for the Angels, don’t be surprised
Article Content:
After having a very productive season as the closer for the Detroit Tigers, Fernando Rodney has signed with the Los Angeles Angels. The contract he received is worth approximately million over two seasons.
While Brian Fuentes remains the closer for the Angels, don’t be surprised if he isn’t pushed by Rodney. Fuentes struggled in the second half of last season and a few people in the organization question is closing capabilities going forward.
On the other hand, Rodney was 37-for-38 last year in save opportunities with the Tigers. His ERA was 4.40, however many of the runs he gave up were in non-save situations. A player with a ton of potential, Rodney was finally able to live up to most of his promise last season.
Come the end of the 2010 season, I’d say it’s even money that Rodney will be the Angels closer. Once Fuentes blows a few saves, the coaching staff won’t hesitate in giving Rodney a shot.
