It’s difficult enough being a fan of the Kansas City Royals. How long has it been since the Royals were a legitimate contender? Seemingly forever. However, due to a wayward wiener, one fan has had injury added to insult.
John Coomer was at a Royals game in September when the club’s mascot was throwing wieners into the stands. Coomer claims that one of those wieners hit him in the left eye and has caused significant injury, including damage to his retina and the onset of cataracts.
Sluggerr, the Royals mascot, had no comment on the incident. The team says that they are looking for someone else to man the mascot, which is a large lion costume with a Royals jersey and a crown for a head. The Royals promise that the move for a new person inside of the costume was made prior to Coomer’s allegations.
Coomer is reportedly asking for ,000 in a newly filed lawsuit. That would be one expensive wiener for the notoriously cheap Kansas City organization.
The Royals were 65-97 last season. They haven’t won at least 85 games since the 1989 season. And now with Sluggerr armed with wieners, fans have to prepare for more than just a loss when they head to the ballpark.
