Although not much of a defensive

Going into the baseball offseason, Jason Bay was regarded as one of the top two or three available free agents. On Tuesday, the New York Mets were able to sign the left fielder to a contract that can be worth as much as million over five seasons.
Although not much of a defensive player, Bay is a force at the plate. The native of Canada hit .267 with 36 homers, 119 RBIs and 103 runs last year for the Boston Red Sox. His 94 walks allowed him to post an impressive .384 on-base percentage.
The Mets needed another big bat to help put runs on the board and they should be happy with Bay. If the 31-year-old can stay healthy and the Mets can get good health from the rest of their roster, they have to be a favorite in the National League in 2010.
With Bay off the board, the big slugger still available in Matt Holliday. It’s looking more and more like the St. Louis Cardinals will be able to re-sign Holliday, however don’t be surprised if a team comes out of nowhere with a giant offer for the last game-changing bat on the market.
