Baseball News:MLB.com Writers Get New Twitter Guidelines
Article Summary:
While this new mandate doesn’t sound
Article Content:
According to a number of online reports, Major League Baseball has told all of its MLB.com writers to stop using Twitter for non-baseball talk. In other words, they want the writers to only use their Twitter accounts to talk about baseball.
While this new mandate doesn’t sound harsh, that’s quite a massive first step for Major League Baseball to take. Instead of trying limit the worst off-topic tweeters, the league thinks it’s better to just end it all? I can’t say that I agree with that logic.
Even worse, there are reports that Major League Baseball is frowning on its players using Twitter. The reports say that if the league had its way, no player would use Twitter. For fans who have gotten a more personalized glimpse of their favorite player via Twitter, that’s a sad reality.
Though I agree that professional leagues need to have rules in place to govern the use of Twitter and other social media, the leagues shouldn’t go overboard. Twitter, in general, is a good thing. And it’s not going away. Embrace it with care, but embrace it nonetheless.
