Jose Offerman’s temper has him in hot water once again. After punching an umpire, Offerman has been suspended for life from the Dominican baseball league. Leonardo Matos-Berrido, the Dominican baseball league president, said that there will be no second chance and that the decision is final.
After the incident, the umpires resigned and headed back to the United States. The umpires reported threats as they were leaving the stadium and said they no longer felt safe. Do to their resignation, the Dominican league was forced to find replacements in short order.
While Offerman has since apologized, his violent temper might keep him from getting baseball work in any country. In 2007, he charged the mound in an independent league game with his bat in hand. After hitting the catcher with the bat during his tirade, Offerman has been sued for millions of dollars for ending his career.
During his playing days, Offerman was an All-Star who had a career batting average of .273 and totaled 57 homers, 537 RBIs, 840 runs and 171 stolen bases.
